Jauzarrea has been invited by the Smithsonian Institution to Washington from the 4th to the 11th of July, during the Folklife Festival http://www.festival.si.edu/ that this organization organizes annually, and in 2016 it deals with the Basques.
Responsible for the Department of Anthropology and Paleoindio want to make known in their institution the development of JAUZARREA, ATLANTIAR, OREINA URKIAN KANATA programs, their implications in the field of the scientific community and the repercussions and consequences of their interaction with several projects that are shared with organizations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Programs that will stimulate the cultural bond between Basque and First Nations of the North-East of North America, in order to optimize the visualization of their identity and achieve recognition and respect for their cultures under the protection of international organizations.
We will also have access to the documentary and graphic resources necessary for the edition of the book "Across Atlantic Ice", through one of its authors, Dr. Dennis Stanford (Department of Anthropology and Paleoindian). In this book the theory of the Solutrean Solution is exposed, that is, the early settlement of America from the Basque Refuge in the Bay of Biscay during the Last Glacial Maximum 20,000 years ago. The book will be published by JAUZARREA in Euskara, Spanish and French with rights for everyone. It is worth mentioning that this book has been awarded with the "Smithsonian research award Secretary's Research Price" in 2016, chosen for its outstanding reception in the entire school field of the United States.
The new archaeological excavation in Maryland, with a stratigraphic level of 21,000-19,000 years, containing materials from the Solutrean era, and in which some are visible to the naked eye in the stratum, will serve to promote the recognition of this hypothesis.
This topic is one of the ones that has generated the greatest synergy among researchers of different disciplines, and it is also the first program that JAUZARREA promoted since the beginning of its journey, already open to society in 2009.
